Dictionary's Definition of a Friend: A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.

.........er?

My Definition of a Friend: A person that you can know for barely a year but have just as many memories as it would take someone else a lifetime to make. A person who's graduation is so horrific because they are going off to college without you and you want so bad just to continue those memories of Oklahoma! and Pirates of Penzance. A person who comes to watch your terrible high school play just because they are an amazing person. A person who can make your day so amazingly great just because life can be just so dang fun....

1. Toilet Paper+Baby Powder Scented Panty Liners+Oreo Cookies+Skipping into a locked Target door+7 People+5 Seater Car+Foreign Kid=THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

2. The ability to make fun of someone just because when they smile they cannot see because their eyes are squinity. I feel this makes driving unsafe.

3. Seeing "tucking and rolling" off of a parking structure as the only escape route from a first date gone terribly wrong.

4. Attending Edgefest and having the tallest person treat the two short ones like her "chicks" so they don't get lost in the mobs of crazy fans. But the tall person doesn't realize that the "stone cold fox" behind her is actually trying to hook up with her...not be a gentlemen.

5. Two words: SILENT TURKEY

6. Always being mooned by the same kid in the Williams Field Airport.

7. Crying during the live show of Wicked...because it was an "emotional moment"

But the ability to sit and talk about these memories for over 4 hours and still laugh as though they happened yesterday is the most important feature of all in a friend. Yes friends will always be there and yadda yadda yadda...but you need to be able to fully live your life with these friends. Even if you see these friends once a year...it should feel as though you were never parted. There is never an awkwardness or a pause of silence because you should always be making new memories...big or small. Old or new...... Awe Friends.

Ogallala Aquifer?

So lately I have been learning so much about "the end of the world". And to be honest, it freaks me out! One of the biggest concerns right now is running out of water. We have been learning about the Ogallala Aquifer (an underground water basin that runs from South Dakota to West Texas) and unfortunately it is running out of water. People in the Ogallala region are taking so much water out everyday (around eleven billion gallons per DAY) that the aquifer is unable to refill itself. Why can't it recharge itself you may be asking yourself? Well there are a couple reasons that it is unable to refill itself:

*1.* Since we have so much pavement and concrete laid down on the ground, water is not able to penetrate the ground and go back down into the aquifer.
*2.* Big corporations come into the Ogallala region and pump water out, bottle it, and ship it out to different parts of the world. Well when water is moved somewhere else, it is unable to sink back into the ground.

Another question you may be asking is, who cares? Can't we just get water from another aquifer? The answer is no. Underground water basins are being depleted all over the world. And once the water is gone, it is gone. And yes we could build desalination plants and use ocean water. But did you know that desalination costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, effects global warming, and even produces nuclear waste?? And did you know that if the Ogallala aquifer dries up that many other things will happen besides running out of water?:

*1.* When there isn't any water to water the agriculture then the fields will dry up. And then ANOTHER Dust Bowl will occur.
*2.* Thousands of people will loose their jobs.
*3.* When people loose their jobs a domino effect will occur onto the economy and it could further us into another great depression.

What really scares me is that I didn't know that a water problem even EXISTED. Did you? When my class took a survey we found out that out of about 50 kids only 3 knew that there was a water issue and that there was an Ogallala aquifer. Well I suggest that you educate yourself on this issue. It is soooo interesting and it made me want to make a difference. Here are a few websites that I looked up if you want to see some more of what I am taking about.

*1.* http://www.bluegold-worldwaterwars.com/ (This is a movie website)
*2.* http://geology.com/usgs/high-plains-aquifer.shtml
*3.*http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=the-ogallala-aquifer

WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE? WE ALL CAN!

*1.* Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth.
*2.* Don't let the shower run longer than needed. Turn off the water when you shave. Take
shorter showers!
*3.* Don't water the lawn if you don't need to. Why water your lawn in the winter? It is just
going to die.
*4.* Don't flush the toilet unless you need to. If you squish a spider throw it away in the
trash can. It's dead...why flush it?
*5.* If you have water you don't need don't just dump it down the sink. Put it to good use.
Water an indoor plant. Put it in the dog bowl.

Fireflies-Owl City

You would not believe your eyes,
If ten million fireflies.
Lit up the world as I fell asleep.
'Cause they fill the open air,
And leave teardrops everywhere.
You think me rude,
But I would just stand and stare.

I'd like to make myself believe,
That Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,
'Cause everything is never as it seems.

'Cause I get a thousand hugs,
From ten thousand lightning bugs.
As they try to teach me how to dance,
A foxtrot above my head,
A sockhop beneath my bed.
The disco ball is just hanging by a thread (thread, thread).

I'd like to make myself believe,
That Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,
'Cause everything is never as it seems. Leave my door open just a crack (please take me away from here),
'Cause I feel like such an insomniac (please take me away from here).
Why do I tire of counting sheep? (please take me away from here)
When I'm far too tired to fall asleep.

To ten million fireflies,
I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes.
I got misty eyes as they said farewell (said farewell),
But I know where several are.
If my dreams get real bizarre,
'Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar.

I'd like to make myself believe,
That Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,
'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep).

I'd like to make myself believe,
That Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,
'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep).

I'd like to make myself believe,
That Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep,
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams.
